About Groups

Our mission at New City Covenant is for each of us to experience transformation into the image of Christ by connecting to God personally, to God's people and to God's purposes. Everything we do fits into this mission, but nothing is as central to accomplishing it as our groups are. We have two types of groups:

Life Groups
Metaphor: To become family

Purpose: This group provides a space for us to “do life together,” hence the name, Life Group. These groups will attempt to live out the whole mission of New City, which is transformation through connecting to God personally, to God’s people and to God’s purposes.

Description: This group will meet weekly to read the Bible, share, and pray. It will regularly engage in service projects and occasionally take mission trips together.

Example: An example would be four families meet every week to eat a meal together. After the meal they spend time reading a chapter of the Bible. After reflecting on the passage for 30 minutes, they shift focus to a time of sharing. Once a month, this group cooks the meal for Soul Food or serves a meal at a local homeless shelter.

Size: 4-12 family units

Meeting Frequency: Weekly

Connecting Groups
Metaphor: To make friends

Purpose: This group is designed to help us make new friends and meet new people. It is more social in nature and no commitment is required to be a part of this group.

Description: This group will meet at a minimum of once a month and will be organized around a certain topic. They will have a primary connecting focus (either to God personally, to God’s people, or to God’s purposes).

Example: A group of people who meet twice a month to read a book together is one example, or maybe a group of guys who get together for breakfast to share prayer concerns with one another. The group could meet regularly to practice a set of spiritual disciplines or it could be a group of people who come together to regularly serve others.

Size: 10-20 people
